The cocoa deliveries to warehouses in Ghana, the world's second-largest producer, are currently about 70% higher than last season.
This significant increase according to Bloomberg has been attributed to an improved harvest and successful efforts to decrease smuggling.
Approximately 560,250 tons of cocoa beans have been delivered to the industry regulator's warehouses since the beginning of the 2024-25 season. This started on February 13, 2025.
The current delivery volume is a considerable increase compared to the same period last year when around 330,000 tons of cocoa beans were delivered to the Ghana Cocoa Board depots.
The global market has been closely monitoring the supply of cocoa from West African growers.
This attention comes after poor harvests during the previous season resulted in a substantial global shortage, causing cocoa prices to reach record highs.
In 2024, cocoa exports also plummeted to US$1.696 billion from US$2.152 billion in December 2023. This was mainly due to challenges posed by extreme weather conditions and galamsey activities
