Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central, Isaac Adongo, has clarified that he is not an economist, despite being appointed to the Bank of Ghana’s (BoG) governing board.
Adongo’s comments come after his appointment by President John Mahama, in consultation with the Council of State.
While the appointment letter designated him as an economist, Mr Adongo, in an interview on Asempa FM Ekosii Sen show, said it was a mistake.
“I am not an economist. I have never held myself out to be an economist, and I believe it was a mistake to designate me as one,” he clarified.
He explained that his professional background is in accounting, specifically as a trained and chartered accountant since 2009.
“My background is in accounting, and I have never listed myself as an economist in my CV,” Mr. Adongo added.
The lawmaker said he was simply called upon to submit his CV, and nowhere in that document did he claim to be an economist.
“I was asked to send my CV, which I did, and nowhere in it did I state that I am an economist,” he said.
Despite this clarification, Mr Adongo’s inclusion on the BoG board is still expected to bring a renewed focus on prudent financial management and policy reforms, which will be crucial for the country’s economic progress.
This appointment has generated interest, and it remains to be seen how Mr Adongo’s expertise in accounting will influence the bank’s operations moving forward.
