The Deputy Minister nominee for the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, has called for greater efforts to encourage women to enter politics.
Speaking during her vetting before Parliament's Appointments Committee on Friday, February 28, she emphasised the need to create a supportive environment that motivates women to take on political roles.
Mrs Sowah noted that many women shy away from politics but stressed that this mindset must change.
"Most people shy away from politics, and we need to encourage them. We need to have mentorship programmes for women," she said.
She believes that with conscious effort, within five to ten years, there will be a significant increase in the number of women entering politics.
"No man will come and pull you from your house to join the political race. As women, we need to make a conscious effort to mentor other women, helping them rise up to fill positions in ministries, including the gender ministry and beyond." She concluded.
