The Minority in Parliament has been blocked from moving a motion seeking a parliamentary probe into the dismissal of workers employed after December 7.
The motion, filed by the Minority Leader and two other NPP MPs, sought to have Parliament declare that the dismissals were unconstitutional.
Before the motion could be moved, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga challenged it, arguing that the matter was already before the courts.
First Deputy Speaker Bernard Ahiafor upheld the Majority Leader’s objection and dismissed the motion.
"Accordingly, the motion and the subsequent debate on it is stayed pending the determination of the matter by the Supreme Court. Honorable members accordingly, the objection is sustained. The motion therefore cannot be moved," he announced.
In February 2025, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah issued a directive revoking all public service appointments and recruitments made after December 7, 2024, citing non-compliance with established good governance practices and principles.
This decision led to controversy, with opposition figures and affected individuals criticising the move as unjust and unconstitutional.
