AngloGold Ashanti is rolling out its first All-Women Apprenticeship Programme to empower young women in the Obuasi communities in entrepreneurship.
The programme is built on the inclusion of women in basic technical skills and their capacity building to boost their employability.
The intention is to reshape perceptions of women’s roles in traditionally male-dominated industries.
AngloGold Ashanti has assessed the gender disparities among women's technical expertise in the Obuasi enclave.

With the aim to build a foundation to create an inclusive and supportive business culture, the company is accelerating action towards women's equity and equality at the Obuasi Mine and within host communities.
The All-Women Apprenticeship Programme will empower young women in the Obuasi communities in entrepreneurship.
Managing Director of AngloGold Ashanti, Samuel Boakye Pobee, says the commitment is to empower young people with specialized skills, and progressive knowledge to make them financially independent.
“Even though women have been part of our Youth Apprenticeship Training Programs, we are excited to announce that we will be launching our first All-Women Apprenticeship Programme this year. AngloGold's ardent hope that by equipping them with the tools necessary to advance to more complex training, they will excel in various trades and industries, which enhances their employability and redefines the narrative around women's roles in traditionally male-dominated fields,” he said.

Speaking at the 2025 International Women’s Day celebration under the theme "Accelerate Action for Women's Equity", he emphasized the urgency of further accelerating the progress for women within organizations and communities.
“Particularly, within the mining sector, the need for innovative approaches and dedicated efforts to encourage and invest in women's participation in all fields, including all levels of our technical and operational areas is long overdue and must be intentional and deliberate,” Samuel Boakye Pobee added.
The Women’s Day celebration assembled women leaders across the Obuasi communities.
The ceremony recognized professional women in STEM who have broken barriers and excelled in their respective fields.

“Obuasi women-led businesses can inspire. I am glad that Anglo Gold Ashanti believes that the youth, especially young women, should be able to explore their passions without boundaries. I will advise the women who receive the opportunity to climb up to make efforts in impacting their field,” said Nana Amoanimaa Dede II, Queenmother of Adansi.
The ceremony featured a health booth to provide opportunity to speak to a renowned dermatologist and economic development booth manned by women business leaders and the cultural booth to learn about the rich cultural heritage that binds and strengthens communities.
In partnership with Absa Ghana and Mastercard Foundation, AngloGold Ashanti rolled out a ‘Women in e-Commerce’ initiative to equip women entrepreneurs with the skills and knowledge needed to navigate the digital marketing landscape.
In 2024, through a competitive process, five women business leaders were selected and fully sponsored to participate in the Absa Inspire Me Conference in Nairobi, Kenya.
