A key member of the National Cathedral Board of Trustees, Rev. Victor Kusi Boateng, has denied allegations that he has been arrested, or has misused funds meant for the project.
In a video captured during a church service, Rev. Boateng addressed his congregation, refuting claims that he had fled the country or had been taken into custody.
"They say I am running away, who am I running away from? I am a law-abiding citizen. I have not stolen anything from anyone," he said. "If you hear rumours of my arrest, just drink water and sleep. I am standing here before you, perhaps it's my ghost that has been arrested," he added.
Rev. Boateng criticised sections of the media for spreading what he called false reports. He mentioned outlets such as JoyNews, GhanaWeb, and Citi News, accusing them of misleading the public.
“What is this world that we are living in, pastors are lying, church members are lying, social media is full of lies, JoyNews is lying, Ghana web is lying, Citi news is lying, what kind of a world is this?” he said.
Addressing concerns about the National Cathedral project, he explained that he had recently travelled and upon his return, he went to have a meeting to discuss issues on the National Cathedral and was shocked to hear claims that he had been arrested.
"Whoever is using my name for their own gain, let them know that I am here. I won’t do anything to disgrace you," he assured his congregation.
He reaffirmed his commitment to the project, stating that his only goal was to build a house for God.
"If you want to arrest me because of the National Cathedral, then what? We are focused on doing the right thing to glorify the Lord," he said.
Rev. Boateng urged church members to remain calm, insisting that he had done nothing wrong and was not afraid of any accusations.
“If you know where we are coming from and where God has brought us now, we are not afraid about what someone will say about us or arrest us, for the rest, no one can change our destiny,” he added.
