Leader of the Economic Fighters League, Ernesto Yeboah, has criticised the opposition party for focusing on personal comfort rather than the needs of the people.
This follows renewed discussions on constructing a new parliamentary chamber. Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, suggested the need for a healthcare facility and a new parliamentary chamber for Parliament during the swearing-in of the Parliamentary Service Board on March 17.
However, his proposal was met with opposition from Bawku Central MP and Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, who argued that Ghana’s economic struggles made such a project unjustifiable.
Mr Yeboah, who was arrested five years ago for leading a protest in Parliament against the proposed chamber, expressed disappointment about the opposition’s stance.
"It is quite disappointing that the only opposition party in Parliament is fixated on issues concerning their personal comfort rather than the general interest of Ghanaians," he said.

He further emphasised the need for electoral reforms, calling on President Mahama to introduce proportional representation in Ghana’s electoral system.
"We plead with President Mahama to allow for proportional representation to address some of these black spots we are witnessing in governance," he appealed.
Additionally, he noted that Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has aligned with public sentiment, which remains strongly opposed to what he called an “atrocious” idea.
