The family of the late Gertrude Quashigah, former National Coordinator of the School Feeding Programme, is demanding an apology and retraction from Sarah Adwoa Safo, former Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya, following recent allegations of mismanagement made by her regarding Madam Quashigah’s tenure.
In a statement, the family urged Adwoa Safo to stop tarnishing Madam Quashigah’s legacy after the former MP’s accusations.
The statement, signed by Isaac Aidoo, Esq., expressed the family’s disappointment over what they described as “unfounded and unfortunate accusations.”
“Our mother carried out her responsibilities with the highest levels of integrity, dedication, and selflessness,” the statement said.
The family emphasised the significant expansion of the School Feeding Programme under Madam Quashigah’s leadership, which greatly improved the nutrition and welfare of thousands of Ghanaian schoolchildren.
The family also expressed their pain over the allegations, noting that it was particularly distressing that Madam Quashigah is no longer alive to defend herself.
They further highlighted the distress these remarks have caused both the family and those who respected her contributions to national development.
In the statement, the family referred to the longstanding relationship between the Quashigah and Safo families, emphasising the mutual respect and public service shared by their fathers, Major Courage Quashigah (Rtd.) and Apostle Kwadwo Safo.
The family has now called on Adwoa Safo to issue an “unqualified apology” and to refrain from making further statements that could tarnish Madam Quashigah’s well-established legacy.
