Mohammed Kassim has been unanimously confirmed as the new District Chief Executive (DCE) for Gomoa-West, receiving 100% approval in a confirmation election held at the Gomoa-West District Assembly in Apam on Friday.
All 54 assembly members and government appointees present voted in favor of Kassim, marking a strong endorsement of his nomination by the President of the Republic, H.E. John Dramani Mahama.
The atmosphere at the assembly hall was jubilant, with party supporters and stakeholders celebrating the decisive vote.
The confirmation ceremony drew several high-profile dignitaries, including Council of State Representative for the Central Region, Mr. Hakeem Addae; Central Regional Minister, Hon. Ekow Panyin; Deputy Energy Minister and Member of Parliament for Gomoa-West, Hon. Richard Gyan-Mensah; and the Paramount Chief of the Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Council, HRM Obrempong Nyanful Krampah XI.
Also in attendance were Central Regional Ghana Bar Association President, Adu Yeboah Esq.; former DCE Theophilus Adu-Mensah; constituency chairmen of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Central Region; DCE for Ekumfi, Ishmael Nana Asamoah; Deputy CEO of the Volta River Authority (VRA) in charge of Services, Mr. Kwesi Fletcher; and other party executives.
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Kassim, who previously served two terms as the NDC constituency chairman for Gomoa-West, expressed deep gratitude for the vote of confidence.
He emphasized the importance of unity in pursuing the district’s development goals.
“A district seeking development cannot succeed with a divisive front. I will be a DCE for all," he added.
He pledged to begin immediate consultations with stakeholders to ensure inclusive and participatory governance, stressing that collaboration and collective effort are essential to progress.
Speaking at the event, Central Regional Minister Hon. Ekow Panyin lauded the outcome, describing it as a strong mandate that comes with high expectations.
“The number of votes polled by the new DCE means expectations are very high. He must deliver and unite the people. It is only through unity that we can achieve the development we all desire,” he said.
MP for Gomoa-West and Deputy Minister for Energy, Hon. Richard Gyan-Mensah, echoed the message of collaboration and unity.
“Just as the new DCE has pledged to serve all, I will also continue to be an MP for all. Together, we will work hard to develop our constituency,” he stated.
Mr. Kassim is expected to assume office immediately, with development of the district and stakeholder engagements at the top of his agenda.
