The Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has announced that the government is on the cusp of finalising a significant investment agreement aimed at transforming Ghana’s digital landscape.
According to the Minister, the deal involves a foreign partner investing close to $1 billion into the country’s IT infrastructure.
Speaking during an appearance on Channel One TV, on Monday, April 14, Mr George revealed that the agreement is expected to be officially signed in the coming weeks.
He emphasised the importance of the initiative, highlighting that it would not only enhance digital systems but also lead to substantial job creation across various sectors of the economy.
“In the next few weeks, you will be hearing of us signing a landmark agreement with a country that is going to be investing close to a billion dollars in Ghana’s IT infrastructure. This collaboration will bring about the needed transformation and generate employment,” he stated.
The Minister further underscored the government’s broader goal of nurturing a digitally capable workforce, with a particular focus on artificial intelligence.
He pointed out that this is key to positioning Ghana as a leader in technology innovation on the continent.
To this end, Mr George cited initiatives such as the One Million Coders Programme, which seeks to equip young Ghanaians with the relevant skills for a competitive, technology-driven economy.
He reiterated that these efforts form part of a long-term strategy to establish Ghana as a hub for digital talent and innovation in Africa.
