The Bono Regional Minister, Joseph Addae Akwaboa, on Monday ordered the Sunyani Area of the National Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo), to tackle the intermittent power outages being experienced in parts of the region with urgency.
Describing the situation as unfortunate, the Regional Minister expressed worry that “our opponents are politicising the power failures,” and called on the NEDCo to proactively address the problem.
He also urged the company to improve their communication with the media and the general public.
Interacting with the media in Sunyani on the side-lines of a visit to the company’s power plant in Sunyani, Mr Akwaboa tasked the NEDCo to tackle the technical challenges contributing to the power outages.
“In my discussions with them, I got to understand that the company has some technical challenges. So, it’s not about ‘dumsor’ and I have asked them to tackle those challenges and restore full power supply,” he stated.
“Though they have a genuine problem, when they explained to me, however, those problems cannot also take off our lights. In fact, it’s not about dumsor, but technical challenges and I have tasked them to resolve those challenges today”.
“Why are those challenges recurring in 2025,” the Regional Minister questioned, emphasising that “it’s not about his Excellency has brought back dumsor as our opponents are saying. In fact, we are here to reset, and we are resetting the country”.
Mr Akwaboa, therefore, asked the media to remain circumspect with their reportage in order not to make the government unpopular in the eyes of the masses.
After taking the Minister through the operation of the company, Mr Eugene Odoi Addo, the Sunyani Area Manager of the NEDCo, urged the public to remain calm as the company tackled the technical challenges.
He said some engineers had arrived from Tamale to support the Sunyani Area to resolve those technical challenges and assured that the problem would be resolved as soon as possible.
