The Ghana Journalists Association and its major partners on Friday commemorated World Press Freedom Day at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.
As usual, the programme brought together hundreds of senior journalists from both public and private media organisations across the country.
The association has been celebrating this day, but what makes the 2025 edition very special is that it was used to honour veteran media practitioners who have defended press freedom in Ghana during and after various military regimes.
It was under the Theme: “Reporting in the brave new world – The impact of artificial intelligence on press freedom and the media.
Some of the personalities who were honoured are former GJA President, Amb. Kabral Blay Amihere; Editor-In chief and publisher of the Weekly Insight Newspaper, Mr Kwesi Pratt Junior; former GJA President, Mrs Gifty Afenyi Dadzie; Publisher of the Daily Dispatch, Ben Ephson; former CEO of the Volta River Authority, Dr. Charles Wireko Brobbey; Chancellor and founder of Wisconsin International University College, Dr. Paul Fynn; former GJA President Adwoa Yeboah Afari; former Editor of BBC, Elizabeth Ohene; Media Consultant, Mr. Kwesi Afrie Badu; veteran journalist Mr Cameron Dodoo; and the Executive Chairman of KGL Group, Alex Dade.

In his address, President of the Ghana Journalists Association, Mr Albert Kwabena Dwumfuor, expressed gratitude to the sponsors of the event who made it possible.
Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, delivered the keynote address on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama.
