Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, has affirmed his unwavering commitment to securing enduring peace in Bawku and its surrounding areas.
The declaration follows the temporary suspension of earlier peace efforts, which were complicated by a long‑standing chieftaincy dispute in the troubled Upper East Region.
Despite these challenges, the Asantehene expressed confidence that recent mediation talks with the rival factions would yield a durable settlement.
Speaking to a delegation from the UK Advanced Command and Staff Course at Manhyia Palace, the Asantehene underscored the importance of stability for national development.
“We need peace to develop. My duty, together with the traditional authority, is to make sure that there is peace everywhere. Therefore, we make sure that we adjudicate issues when there are conflicts so that the government can also have peace to do its work,” he said.
He went on to address the recent flare‑ups in the Bawku area, near the Burkina Faso border, reiterating his determination to mediate effectively.
“Recently, there have been some communal conflicts within the upper part of Ghana, closer to Burkina Faso (Bawku), but we are putting in every effort to ensure there is a lasting peace,” he stated.
