Three people, including the wife of a renowned herbalist, Dr Felix Antwi Dankwa, have been arrested in connection with a suspected arson incident at Kasoa in the Central Region that claimed his life.
The 67-year-old herbalist, who was the Chief Executive Officer of Antwi Herbal, died after a fire gutted his residence, which also served as a clinic, on the night of Monday, August 10, 2026. Three other occupants, including his wife, escaped the blaze without injuries.
Although the family has yet to officially comment on the incident, sources close to the deceased say Dr Antwi Dankwa had been involved in a marital dispute with his wife, who lived abroad. According to the source, the couple had reported to the Kasoa District Police Command earlier on Monday following allegations that the wife had changed the ownership details of some of the herbalist's assets.
The source said an altercation reportedly occurred between the couple at the police station, after which the police cautioned them and directed them to appear before a court on Tuesday, August 11.
Following the fire, police officers who visited the scene arrested Dr Antwi Dankwa's wife and two workers who also lived at the residence to assist with investigations. Sources have raised suspicion that the herbalist may have been killed before the building was set ablaze in an attempt to conceal the alleged crime. However, the circumstances surrounding his death have not been officially established.
Police investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire and the circumstances leading to Dr Antwi Dankwa's death.
Dr Antwi Dankwa was recently recognised by the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) for his contribution and partnership in promoting herbal medicine.
