South Dayi Member of Parliament (MP), Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor, has filed a suit against Assin South MP Reverend John Ntim Fordjour for defamation.
He alleges that a social media post published by the latter has gravely damaged his reputation, integrity and political standing.
The suit, filed at the High Court, stems from a May 8, 2025, post on “X”, formerly known as Twitter, in which Rev Fordjour said that Mr Dafeamekpor, as vice chairman of Parliament’s Subsidiary Legislation Committee, must provide answers to some alleged payments.
Rev Fordjour further suggested that a probe was necessary and accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of benefiting from some monies while in opposition.
However, Mr Dafeamekpor, who serves as the Chief Whip of the Majority in Parliament, has denied the claims, asserting that he was not even a member of the Subsidiary Legislation Committee in December 2023, when the incident allegedly took place.
He contended that the statements are not only "false and malicious" but were made with reckless disregard for the truth.
The South Dayi MP is seeking a declaration that the statements were defamatory, along with several remedies, including an interlocutory and perpetual injunction restraining Rev Fordjour from further publications.
He also seeks a retraction and public apology in both print and on social media, and damages exceeding GH₵30 million.
In the suit, Mr Dafeamekpor argued that the defamatory content has caused “serious injury to his character”, economic losses, and public ridicule.
He added that the statements were published with the intent to erode public trust and were permanently stored online, amplifying the reputational harm.
The Majority Chief Whip is also demanding aggravated, punitive, and compensatory damages, along with legal costs and any other relief the court deems appropriate.
