The Paramount Chief of the Dormaa Traditional Area, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II, has weighed in on the arrest of New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
According to the ruler, while he admires the politician, the rule of law must prevail.
Speaking at a public event in the Bono Region, the Dormaahene, who is also a High Court judge, explained the importance of allowing due process to take its course in Wontumi’s case.
Wontumi remains in custody after failing to meet bail conditions by the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) following his arrest.
His detention has sparked protests from NPP supporters, who stormed the EOCO headquarters on Thursday, demanding his immediate release and describing his GH₵50 million bail conditions as excessive.
Wontumi has subsequently been moved to the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), where the supporters have now massed up.
Meanwhile, security has been tightened at the NIB headquarters ahead of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s expected visit later today.
