The Ministry of Education is urging all Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in Ghana to register with the Student Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) in order to benefit from the government’s “No-Free-Stress” policy.
Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu made the call when he addressed a gathering of persons with special needs at the ministry on Monday.
He said registration with the SLTF is a key requirement to ensure smooth disbursement of funding as part of President John Dramani Mahama’s pledge to make higher education fully accessible to PWDs.
“We are collecting data on persons with disabilities from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission and all tertiary institutions for the effective implementation of this policy,” the minister stated. “Your funding will come through the Student Loan Trust, so every person with a disability needs to register.”
Mr. Iddrisu reaffirmed the government’s commitment to upholding the dignity and rights of persons with disabilities, stressing that efforts are underway to ensure institutional support and proper allocation from the Disability Common Fund.
“I am committed to providing for the enhancement of the dignity of persons with disabilities. We will do more to support you, both in terms of institutional support and employment opportunities,” he added.
