Three pupils are in critical condition and receiving treatment at the St. Joe’s Clinic and the Kasoa Polyclinic after a high-tension cable fell on them at Kasoa Ofaakor in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region.
The unfortunate incident happened on Monday behind the Kasoa Ofaakor Sports Stadium on the Ofankor-Jei River road.
Residents told Adom News that the high-tension line had been faulty for several months, frequently sparking fires.
Despite lodging complaints with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), no action was taken.
They said they are still in shock over how the cable fell on the children after school hours.
Eyewitnesses who rushed the victims to the hospital reported that they suffered severe burns, with two of them unconscious.
Esther Krampah, mother of one of the victims, told Adom News she has been left devastated by the incident.
