Kwasi Kwarteng, spokesperson for former Assin Central MP and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Agyapong, says the presidential aspirant remains committed to unity and peace within the party, but will not be intimidated or approach the contest from a position of weakness.
Speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse on Monday, 23 June, Mr Kwarteng stressed that while Mr Agyapong values cohesion in the NPP, he is also fully prepared to contest the upcoming flagbearer race with firmness and resolve.
“First of all, we are ready for unity and peace, but the Team Ken camp will also not show weakness. If it is right, we will say it is right; if it is wrong, we will say it is wrong,” he asserted.
His comments followed a declaration by over 200 former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), who reportedly pledged their support to former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, rejecting suggestions that any of them had endorsed Mr Agyapong.

Earlier on the same programme, former Adentan MCE Ebenezer Doku publicly backed Dr Bawumia, describing him as the most competent to lead the NPP to victory in the 2028 general elections.
Responding, Mr Kwarteng dismissed the endorsements as orchestrated and insincere.
“I insist and maintain that this is a rehearsed choreography—sponsored and paid-for endorsement. I bet to say, if these are the main executives of the association of former MMDCEs,” he said.
“Let us wait. I am sure, by the end of the day, time will tell whether these endorsements were indeed genuine or coerced and rehearsed. As we witnessed in the last election, this time around, we will resist it,” he added.
The NPP is expected to hold its presidential primaries in January 2026, with the contest set to intensify as leading aspirants, including Dr Bawumia and Mr Agyapong, intensify their campaigns nationwide.
