The Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Hon. Faustina Elikplim Akurugu, has reaffirmed her commitment to strengthening basic education in her constituency and the wider Ga East Municipality.
Speaking as the Guest of Honour at the Ga East Municipal Headteachers' Conference on Thursday, June 26, 2025, Hon. Akurugu praised the efforts of headteachers in maintaining educational standards despite the challenges they face.
The event, held at the Ashongman Presbyterian Church and Cluster of Schools, brought together school leaders from across the municipality.
This year’s conference focused on the evolving role of headteachers under the theme: "Headteachers as Instructional Leaders: Driving Competency-Based Learning in Basic Schools." Discussions centred on curriculum reforms, digital tools in education, and strategies for inclusion.
Hon. Akurugu underscored the importance of headteachers taking an active role in teaching and learning outcomes. "The successful implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum depends largely on your leadership at the school level. You are no longer just administrators; you are the drivers of teaching and learning outcomes," she noted.
She also assured the educators of her ongoing efforts to improve conditions for both teachers and pupils. "Education remains a top priority for me as your representative in Parliament. I will continue to work closely with the Ghana Education Service and other stakeholders to address your concerns and improve the educational landscape in our constituency," she said.
The conference ended with a renewed commitment among head teachers to lead effectively and support the successful rollout of the Competency-Based Curriculum in their schools.
