The student leadership of the University of Ghana’s School of Agriculture has launched an initiative to protect students amidst a reported resurgence of COVID-19 cases on campus.
On Friday, June 27, the International Association of Students in Agricultural and related Sciences – University of Ghana (IAAS-UG) began distributing nose masks to students.

The donation was made by the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon and Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, John Dumelo.
The effort follows a recent alert from the university’s Health Directorate warning of rising COVID-19 infections and recommending increased vigilance.

Although social events have been suspended to curb potential spread, lectures are still ongoing — making safety in academic spaces a growing concern.
In response, the IAAS leadership says the mask distribution is part of its commitment to safeguarding student health during this critical period.
“Protecting the health of our members is a top priority,” the leadership said in a statement.

The distribution exercise will continue on Monday, and all students are encouraged to pick up masks and wear them, especially during lectures.
While mask-wearing is not yet mandatory, students are being urged to observe safety guidelines issued by the Ghana Health Service, including wearing masks in crowded or enclosed spaces, regular handwashing, and reporting symptoms promptly.
