Defence Minister and outgoing NDC Director of Elections and IT, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, has called for urgent bipartisan efforts to address the challenges facing Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC).
Reacting to the EC’s decision to rerun elections in 19 polling stations in the Ablekuma North Constituency, Dr Boamah said the situation, while alarming, can still be salvaged.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, July 9, he acknowledged the current discontent with the EC’s performance but maintained that hope is not lost.
“It’s not too late…” he wrote, stressing the need for political maturity and cooperation to restore public trust in the electoral system ahead of the crucial 2024 general elections.
Dr Boamah urged all political actors—especially the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP)—to put partisanship aside and commit to electoral reforms that protect Ghana’s democratic future.
“Let’s work together to fix the broken Electoral Commission and save Ghana’s democracy!” he appealed.
