An illegal abortion clinic and an unlicensed drugstore have been uncovered in the deep slum of the Asawase enclave in the Ashanti region.
The illegal facilities, both situated in the densely populated slum along the Peleele Stream in the Asokore Mampong Municipality, were found to be operating without regulatory approval, raising grave public health and safety concerns.
The two illicit health facilities were discovered by the Asokore Mampong Municipal Security Council in a swoop led by the Municipal Chief Executive on Wednesday, July 9.

It is part of efforts to combat drug abuse and related criminal activities in the municipality, reported to be a hot spot for illegal drug activities.
The MCE, Ben Abdallah Alhassan, noted that the development is alarming and underscores the urgent need for stricter enforcement and community sensitization.
“This is a serious health threat to our youth and community. There is a lot of illicit use of drugs among the youth over there, endangering the environment through the poor sanitation in the enclave,” he said.
He further disclosed that some drugs from the facilities have been seized for further investigations.
