The much-anticipated 2025 Bankers Football League officially kicks off today, July 12, with teams from across Ghana’s banking sector ready to swap suits for jerseys and competition for camaraderie.
The opening weekend promises excitement, fitness, and sportsmanship as matches begin at two venues: the La McDan Astroturf and the St. Thomas Aquinas Senior High School pitch.
Now in its latest edition since launching in 2018, the Bankers League has grown into a cherished tradition—celebrating employee wellness, collaboration, and team spirit within the industry.
Following an action-packed curtain-raiser gala at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, all eyes are now on the main league fixtures, which will run every Saturday through to September.
This year’s competition features 17 banks:
1. Bank of Ghana (BOG); 2. Consolidated Bank Ghana (CBG); 3. CalBank; 4. GTBank; 5. Omnibsic Bank; 6. Stanbic Bank; 7. National Investment Bank (NIB); 8. Universal Merchant Bank (UMB); 9. First Bank Ghana; 10. Access Bank; 11. United Bank for Africa (UBA); 12. Zenith Bank; 13. Société Générale; 14. Republic Bank; 15. Ecobank; 16. GCB Bank; 17. Absa Bank.
Defending champions CalBank are back to defend their title, while early gala standouts like Stanbic Bank, led by standout forward Anas Abdallah, are expected to challenge strongly.
League Rules emphasise fairness and integrity. Matches will be played in a round-robin format, while participation is strictly limited to staff members of participating banks, and unsporting conduct may attract sanctions or disqualification.
Trophies and prizes await the winners, alongside medals and special honours for:
- Best Player
- Top Scorer
