The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, has announced that the government is scaling up its rural electrification efforts with the goal of achieving universal electricity access across the country by 2028.
Speaking at the Government’s Accountability Series held at the Jubilee House, Mr Jinapor emphasised the administration’s commitment to closing the rural-urban electricity gap, describing it as a crucial pillar of Ghana’s broader development agenda.
“We are working very hard to increase rural electrification,” the Minister stated. “So far, we have connected 63 communities, and we are launching a massive rural electrification project.”
Mr Jinapor explained that the Ministry of Energy, in collaboration with key partners, is intensifying its efforts to bring power to all parts of the country, particularly underserved rural areas.
He added that the government’s vision is not merely about providing power but also about ensuring that access to electricity drives socio-economic growth, improves quality of life, and fosters development in remote communities.
The Energy Minister reaffirmed that the ultimate target is to achieve universal access to electricity by 2028, aligning with Ghana’s long-term national energy strategy.
The rural electrification initiative forms part of the government’s broader commitment to green energy transition, industrialisation, and inclusive development.
