One of the lawyers for Paul Adom-Otchere in the ongoing OSP investigations, Apraku Agyepong, has expressed surprise at some sections of the public he says are twisting the ‘Thank You’ video by Paul Adom-Otchere, in which he mentions names of individuals who showed concern whilst he was held in detention.
There are suggestions that such individuals were resisting the anti-corruption agencies.
Lawyer Apraku says the suggestions are far from the truth and represent a wicked political spin.
He asserted that the individuals did so to complain about the ‘harsh bail conditions’ set by the OSP.
It will be recalled the OSP’s initial bail condition was for Mr Adom-Otchere to provide two landed properties he owns personally as sureties, in addition to two others as sureties.
The lawyer however, says these conditions were set after the OSP was made aware by an earlier form filled by Adom-Otchere in which he indicated that he didn’t have a landed property of his own.
The OSP, was thus aware that the conditions given were not attainable and hence designed the bail conditions to detain Adom-Otchere.
Lawyer Apraku emphasised that it was after he made these facts known on TV on Thursday night that most of the interventions began against the ‘harsh bail conditions’.
He added that the general principle of law is that bail should never be applied as punishment for anyone.
Eventually, the OSP varied the bail terms, and Paul Adom-Otchere subsequently posted the bail.
