Election Watch Ghana has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and seven others in a military helicopter crash on Wednesday, describing his passing as “an unfilled void in our nation’s democratic landscape.”
In a condolence statement on Friday, the group praised Dr. Omane Boamah’s “invaluable contributions to Ghana’s democratic journey,” noting his dedication, leadership, and commitment to national progress.
“As an organization committed to promoting transparency, accountability, and fairness in electoral processes, we at Election Watch Ghana are particularly saddened by his passing,” the statement read.
The group urged Ghanaians to take comfort in the promise of eternal life and the legacy the late minister leaves behind.
The statement prayed for strength and guidance for the bereaved families, adding that Dr. Omane Boamah’s life and work should continue to inspire efforts toward building a better Ghana.
Eight people, including Dr. Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, and three Ghana Armed Forces personnel, died when a military helicopter crashed in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region on August 6, 2025.
