Bia Senior High Technical School of Bia West district in the Western North region has unveiled ‘Boafo)’, an innovative agricultural machine that combines ploughing, harvesting, and weeding functions, powered by electrical energy converted from solar power.
Designed to address farming challenges in rural communities, ‘Boafo)’ aims to enhance productivity, reduce manual labour, and promote the use of renewable energy in agriculture.
The school presented the innovation at the ongoing zonal stage of the 6th edition of the Energy Commission's Senior High Schools Renewable Energy Challenge in Kumasi.
By integrating multiple functions into a single device, the innovation offers a cost-effective and environmentally friendly solution for smallholder farmers.

The challenge aims to encourage students to develop sustainable, homegrown technologies that address national development needs.
In this year's challenge, eight high schools representing the southern part of the country and seven schools from the northern part are participating in the challenge.
