The Energy Commission of Ghana has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Abu Dhabi-based investment company, Global South Utilities (GSU), to strengthen cooperation and explore new opportunities in Ghana’s energy sector.
The agreement, which seeks to promote technical cooperation, knowledge sharing and investment partnerships, forms part of efforts to support Ghana’s energy transition and improve access to sustainable, reliable and affordable energy.
The MoU was signed in Accra by the Acting Executive Secretary of the Energy Commission, Ms Adwoa Serwaa Bondzie, and the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of GSU, Mr Ali Al Shimmari, following approval by the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by the United Arab Emirates Ambassador to Ghana, Dr Abdulla Almandoos.
It took place on the sidelines of a high-level visit to the Presidency by a UAE delegation led by the country’s Minister of State, Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan.

Under the partnership, the Energy Commission and GSU will identify practical areas of collaboration, particularly in energy infrastructure development, capacity building and investments that align with Ghana’s clean energy objectives.
Speaking after the signing, Ms Bondzie said the agreement provides a platform for both institutions to pursue initiatives that will deliver measurable benefits to Ghana’s energy sector.
She noted that the partnership would help identify “practical areas of collaboration that deliver tangible value for Ghana’s energy sector.”
Mr Al Shimmari also reaffirmed GSU’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s energy ambitions, stating that the company was ready to contribute to the country’s “energy transition and long-term economic growth.”
Both institutions expressed optimism that the agreement would enhance energy infrastructure resilience, attract investment and contribute to expanding access to sustainable energy, not only in Ghana but across the wider region.
