The National Commission on Culture (NCC) has engaged the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) to strengthen strategic partnerships and advance cultural diplomacy.
A delegation led by Mr Wakefield Ackuaku, Acting Executive Director of the NCC, met Madam Cynthia Prah, National Information Officer at UNIC, under the UN Department of Global Communications, in Accra.
Mr Ackuaku outlined the Commission’s mandate and its operational presence across all 16 regions and various districts in Ghana.
He highlighted “The Black Star Experience” as the government’s flagship cultural programme.
Mr Ackuaku said the year-long initiative was anchored on monthly themes and activities aimed at reconnecting Ghanaians with their cultural identity and heritage.
He added that the Commission was currently re-aligning its work plan to better integrate these themes for broader impact.
Madam Prah described UNIC as the UN’s central information hub in Ghana, responsible for promoting the organisation’s mission and values, and connecting the public with UN agencies and activities.
She acknowledged the NCC’s nationwide reach as a valuable asset in advancing public awareness and advocacy campaigns.
“This engagement underscored the importance of cultural institutions in global development discourse and marked a significant step towards fostering collaboration between the NCC and international partners, particularly in promoting inclusion, communication, and sustainable cultural development,” she said.
