Ghana's Ambassador to South Korea, Kojo Choi, has openly stated that his business ventures have, over the years, provided significant "indirect support" to multiple political parties.

The revelation was made during an interview on JoyNews' The Pulse today (August 14), where he reflected on his career as a business owner before his diplomatic appointment.

Ambassador Choi, a prominent figure in the business community before his foray into public service, cited the pivotal 2000 general election as a period when his printing company worked extensively with both major political parties.

"The biggest business I had since I started in 1999 was the year 2000," Ambassador Choi said. He detailed the high-volume printing contracts he received from both sides of the political divide during the fiercely contested presidential race between John Agyekum Kufuor (NPP) and the late John Evans Atta Mills (NDC).

He specifically recalled printing campaign materials, including thousands of portraits for the candidates and their supporters.

"I printed thousands of their faces. You know that was one business that I started in Ghana," he explained.

However, the Ambassador also shed light on the often-informal nature of such business transactions in the political arena, revealing that many of his clients never fully settled their bills.

"Many of them didn't come back to pay, which means I never, I've never voluntarily supported the parties, but indirectly I've supported both parties in so many different ways," he stated.

Ambassador Choi's comments provide a rare glimpse into the complex relationship between the business community and political parties in Ghana, highlighting how entrepreneurs often contribute to the political landscape through their services, regardless of their personal affiliations or the commercial outcome.
