Ghanaian nutritionist Emefa Deka is spearheading a nationwide campaign this September to raise awareness about Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) through her Plug Her Initiative.
As both a broadcaster and a PCOS warrior herself, Emefa is determined to use her platform, influence, and expertise to empower young women to understand the condition and find strength in their journey.
This year’s PCOS campaign goes beyond health talks; Emefa is blending food, music, and entertainment to make the conversation relatable and engaging.
Through her food and nutrition show, The Seazn’n Show on itsfuse TV (YouTube), she is hosting a special segment called Eat & Talk, where young women living with PCOS come together to cook, share their personal experiences, and break the stigma surrounding the condition.
In addition, Emefa is producing a series of short videos to debunk myths about PCOS and will be engaging other women living with the condition, including musicians, influencers, and broadcasters, to amplify the campaign and assure young girls that they are not alone. Her vision is to build this annual campaign into a movement that will eventually provide free testing and medical assistance to young girls across Ghana.
Speaking about the campaign, Emefa Deka said: “As young women, our bodies tell stories that are unique to us. PCOS is not a flaw; it is part of our journey. To every young girl facing body changes, don’t let the world’s teasing or judgment make you doubt your worth. You are more than enough, and together, we will own our stories with confidence and pride.”
The PCOS Awareness Campaign by Emefa Deka’s Plug Her Initiative is calling on all young women, female creatives, and health advocates to join the conversation, support the movement, and create a safe community for girls across Ghana.
