The Tarkwa District Court One has sentenced Stephen Ntiful, a 25-year-old electrician, to one year imprisonment with hard labour for stealing assorted items valued at GH¢8,160.00 in a tavern.
Ntiful, who is popularly known as Kinata, was charged with conspiracy to commit crime, unlawful entry and stealing.
He pleaded guilty to all the charges.
Prosecuting, Police Inspector Patrick Essien told the court, presided over by Mr. Charles Owusu Nsiah ESQ, that the complainant, Michael Bassuah, is a businessman who operated a tavern at Tarkwa Banso, in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality.
He said Ntiful resided in the same vicinity with the complainant, while his accomplice, Victor Boateng alias "Why Me”, was currently at large.
According to Inspector Essien, on May 11, 2025, the complainant went to his tavern and noticed his Lenovo laptop computer, a gambling machine, a packet of Vodka alcoholic drink, two packets of Rothman and Oris cigarettes and a box of lighters, all valued at GH¢8,160.00, had been stolen.
He said the complainant suspected Ntiful and Boateng of being involved in the theft, began searching for them, and eventually came across Ntiful. With assistance from some neighbours, he apprehended him and handed him over to the police.
The prosecutor said a formal report was made to the police by the complainant and Ntiful was re-arrested to aid investigations.
Inspector Essien said investigations conducted by the police revealed that on May 10, 2025, Ntiful and Boateng were among the crowd at the complainant's tavern watching the Ghana Music Awards.
He said that after a long night, the complainant closed the tavern around 3:00 am the following day and went to sleep.
Prosecution said that when Ntiful and his accomplice realised the place was quiet, they broke into the complainant's tavern, stole the items mentioned above, and took them to an uncompleted building, smoked some of the cigarettes and enjoyed the drinks as well.
He said Ntiful in his investigation caution statement alleged he fell asleep after taking the drink, and when he woke up in an uncompleted building, his friend Boateng had left with the items.
