The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation is set to review Ghana’s broadcasting policy framework to reflect the growing realities of digital convergence, where radio, television, and internet-based broadcasting increasingly overlap.
This was announced on Friday, September 26, by Samuel Nartey George during a high-level media forum in Accra organised by the Africa Media Bureau.
“The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation is reviewing Ghana’s broadcasting policy framework to reflect the realities of digital convergence, where radio, television, and internet-based broadcasting increasingly overlap within a single ecosystem,” Mr George said.
He explained that the ministry will work closely with the Ministry of Government Communications and other stakeholders to ensure the revised framework captures the complexities of the modern media environment.
“In light of this, my ministry will collaborate with the Ministry of Government Communications and other key stakeholders to take a dispassionate look at the current broadcasting bill with the view to making it reflective of the nuanced realities of today’s world,” he added.
The forum, held in partnership with Channel One TV and Citi FM, brought together regulators, policymakers, industry leaders, and technology experts to discuss how Ghana can modernise its broadcasting policies amid rapid technological change.
The event, themed “Aligning Policy, Technology and Global Best Practices for a Resilient Media Landscape”, focused on how emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and 5G, changing consumer behaviour, and regulatory challenges are reshaping content creation, delivery, and monetisation.
