The Ghana Stammering Association (GSA) has encouraged persons who stammer to embrace self-acceptance as the first and most important step toward unlocking their full potential and living fulfilled lives.

Speaking at the 2025 Women Who Stammer Conference, Chairperson of the Association, Nana Akua Owusu, underscored that true progress begins when individuals who stammer accept themselves without shame or limitation.

“The important thing for persons who stammer is to work towards acceptance,” she stressed. “Once acceptance is achieved, so many other things will unravel and fall into place.”

Held virtually under the theme “Turning Challenges into Voices of Strength,” the conference brought together women who stammer from diverse backgrounds to share their personal journeys and offer mutual support.

Nana Akua Owusu urged participants to nurture confidence through communication, advocacy, resilience, and education, noting that these pillars help dismantle societal misconceptions about stammering while empowering individuals to speak up and lead boldly.

Speakers at the event, including Hope Mobee and Dr. Amani Osman, shared inspiring stories of how embracing their stammering identities transformed their personal and professional lives.

The conference formed part of activities marking International Stammering Awareness Month, celebrated globally in October to raise awareness about stammering—a neurological condition that affects the fluency of speech.

This year’s event, organised by the Ghana Stammering Association, sought to deepen public understanding, promote acceptance, and sustain advocacy for the inclusion and empowerment of people who stammer.
