Asante Kotoko Communications Director, Sarfo Duku has cited the financial needs of the club as reason behind Albert Amoah’s move to Libyan side Al Ahli Benghazi.
The club announced Albert's departure two hours after losing to Wydad Athletic in the CAF Confederations Cup tie.
But there is a debate about the timing of the player’s transfer, with some believing it is not ideal at this time.
Speaking on Luv FM’s Sports Blitz Xtra, Sarfo said: “Don't forget that Kotoko also needs money to run the club. This discussion can take us the whole day. There is a school of thought which believes that it's not the best to transfer the play at this stage. But if you are into football in Ghana at this stage, I'm sure that you agree with us.”
Sarfo Duku did not disclose the fee involved in the transfer but insisted the deal was “really good”.
“I'm not permitted to destroy the figure, but per the Ghanaian standard, I think it's okay,” he said.
He also denied that Kotoko will sell three more players in the coming days but left the door open for more transfers.
“There’s nothing like that on the table now, but as and when offers come, they will be determined on their merits,” he noted.
Albert Amoah was a key figure in the Kotoko team scoring four goals in six games this season. He scored twice against Kwara United in the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round.
