Highlife artiste Ofori Amponsah has denied claims by music producer Fred Kyei Mensah, popularly known as Fredima, that he was the one who introduced him to the late Daddy Lumba.
Speaking on Hitz FM's Daybreak Hitz, hosted by Kwame Dadzie and Doreen Avio, Ofori Amponsah said he personally took his demo recordings to Daddy Lumba after Fredima had helped him record them.
“It wasn’t Fredima who introduced me to Daddy Lumba. I went out searching for a producer by myself. I went around looking for people to help me. He did the demo for me and I had to take it around,” he said.
He explained that he did not visit Lumba’s house with Fredima for the first time when he was looking for a producer.
“I went to Daddy Lumba’s house myself, presented my demo, and the following day I came to him, he said he had listened to it and wanted to see me. I went in and he said ‘I will help you.' That’s all,” Ofori added.
According to him, it was rather he who later took Fredima to meet Daddy Lumba. He also introduced Selina Orleans, a lady who worked with Fredima, to Lumba because the latter wanted someone to record a gospel song with.
Earlier, veteran producer Fredima had claimed he personally drove Ofori Amponsah to meet Daddy Lumba. He repeated the same assertion on Power FM three years ago, suggesting that Ofori’s recent comments contradicted his earlier interviews where he credited him for linking him to the highlife legend.
Fred Kyei Mensah also stated that Daddy Lumba once asked if Ofori had ever shown appreciation for his role in his rise to fame.
Meanwhile, Ofori Amponsah has acknowledged Fredima as the one who discovered his musical talent, though he insists the connection with Daddy Lumba was made independently.
Ofori Amponsah and Daddy Lumba later collaborated on several hit songs including Wo Ho Kyere, Adu Da, Dangerous, and Odo Nti.
In the meantime, Ofori Amponsah is out with a new song titled 'Waiting' which features King Paluta.
