Council of State Member for the Volta Region, Gabriel Kwamigah-Atokple, has confirmed his commitment to institute an academic prize at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS).
The "Gabriel Kwamigah-Atokple Prize for the Overall Graduating Student in the School of Nursing and Midwifery" will recognize excellence among graduating students in the institution's nursing and midwifery program.
In a letter dated November 14, 2025, addressed to Professor Frank Edwin, Pro-Vice Chancellor of UHAS, Mr Kwamigah-Atokple expressed his appreciation to the university's Committee of Trustees for Academic Prizes Fund for acknowledging his proposal.
"It is gratifying to know that this gesture is considered useful in motivating students to strive for excellence in their academic pursuits," Mr Kwamigah-Atokple stated."
"I am confident that rewarding outstanding performance will contribute to shaping well-grounded practitioners who will support the growth and impact of the health sector in Ghana."
The Council of State Member confirmed his readiness to fulfill all requirements associated with establishing the prize, which will be administered over a five-year period.
He indicated his willingness to work closely with relevant university offices to ensure the successful implementation of the award.
Dr. Dominic Agyei Dankwah (PhD), Electronic Resources & Training Librarian at UHAS, had earlier reached out to Mr Kwamigah-Atokple, thanking him for his interest in sponsoring the academic prize.
"Your support will make a meaningful impact on our efforts to recognise excellence and inspire future professionals in this vital field," Dr. Dankwah noted.
The establishment of this prize underscores the commitment of regional leaders to advancing healthcare education and recognizing academic excellence in Ghana's health sector.
