The Nkawkaw Divisional Police Command has arrested three people for stealing cartons of sardines from a cargo truck that was involved in an accident on the Accra–Kumasi highway at Kwahu Fodua in the Eastern Region.

The truck, a fully loaded container with registration number AA 119CY, was travelling from Accra to Kumasi when it overturned, blocking traffic in both directions. The driver and his mate were on board at the time.

Although investigations are ongoing, preliminary reports indicate that the driver swerved to avoid a pothole in the middle of the road, causing the container to tip over.

The crash attracted a large crowd of residents and motorists. While some assisted in efforts to tow the vehicle and clear the obstruction, three individuals were caught removing sardines from the overturned container.

They were immediately apprehended and handed over to the police.
The injured driver and mate are currently receiving treatment at the Holy Family Hospital in Nkawkaw.
