Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has launched another strong criticism at Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, insisting that his alleged failure to prevent former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta from leaving the country represents an error from which he “will never recover.”
Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show on Friday, December 5, Mr Kpebu argued that Mr Agyebeng’s actions—or lack thereof—amount to gross incompetence, especially given that Mr Ofori-Atta is facing criminal charges initiated by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
According to Kpebu, the Special Prosecutor had both the legal tools and the responsibility to ensure that a high-profile accused person remained within the jurisdiction.
“Kissi Agyebeng will never recover the incompetence of allowing Ofori-Atta to flee. This is a stain that will follow him forever,” he asserted.
He maintained that the OSP should have secured a restriction order or other lawful measures to keep Mr Ofori-Atta available for ongoing investigations and prosecution, describing the lapse as “a dereliction of duty.”
Kpebu, who has been in a public standoff with the OSP following his recent arrest, said the incident further strengthens his belief that the office lacks the procedural rigour required to handle cases involving politically exposed persons.
