Ghana will on Saturday, December 13, 2025, bid its final farewell to the former Minister for Defence and former Director of Elections and IT of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Edward Omane Boamah.
His funeral rites will be held at Jackson’s Park in Koforidua, beginning at 12:00 noon, according to an official announcement from the Presidency.
The ceremony is expected to draw a large gathering, including family, government officials, executives of the NDC, state dignitaries, and members of the public who continue to mourn the loss of the respected statesman.
Dr. Boamah’s passing has been described as a major national tragedy, given his long service to the nation and his central role in public life.
He died on August 6, 2025, in a military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of all eight people on board. The incident involved a Harbin Z-9EH aircraft (tail number GHF 631) operated by the Ghana Air Force.
The crash also took the lives of several senior government officials and military personnel. They included Minister for Environment, Science and Technology Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed; Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Muniru Mohammed Limuna; NDC Vice-Chair Samuel Sarpong; former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala; Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
