A high-level Ghanaian delegation, comprising JoyNews journalist Eliasu Tanko, former Chief of Air Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces Frank Hanson, and former Defence Advisor to Nigeria Commodore James Osei Kontoh, has arrived in Morocco to participate in the 14th edition of the Atlantic Dialogues Conference. The flagship forum, organised by the Policy Centre for the New South (PCNS) under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, is taking place from December 11 to 13, 2025, at the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) campus in Rabat.

Now in its fourteenth year, the Atlantic Dialogues has become a premier global platform connecting Africa, Europe, the Americas, and the Caribbean. It provides an opportunity to reassess inter-Atlantic relations and examine the growing geopolitical and economic relevance of the South Atlantic. This year builds on the expanded multidisciplinary format introduced in 2024.

A Focus on Crisis, Democracy, and Global Transformation

The 2025 edition addresses the complex crises confronting the world today, examining their implications and potential reforms. The opening plenary will explore a central debate: whether democracy can still deliver in an era marked by declining public trust and rapid societal evolution.

Over three days, participants will engage in nine plenary sessions and twenty specialised workshops covering themes such as global governance, economic resilience, security, climate change, and technological transformation. There is also a notable focus on underexplored areas, including the strategic value of maritime corridors, efforts to ease geopolitical tensions, and the protection of fragile marine ecosystems.

Action-Oriented Dialogue and Expert Contributions

With more than 2,000 participants expected, the forum emphasises practical solutions and collaborative action. Moderated discussions encourage open, direct engagement among experts, policymakers, private-sector leaders, and civil society.

The conference opens with the launch of the 12th edition of the Atlantic Currents report, a flagship PCNS publication analysing major trends shaping the Atlantic Basin since 2014. Contributions from former presidents, ministers, diplomats, researchers, and leading think tanks will further enrich the conversations.

Strengthening Intergenerational Exchange

Running in parallel is the 12th Atlantic Dialogues Emerging Leaders (ADEL) program, which hosts 40 young professionals aged 25–35 from across the Atlantic space. Selected from more than 1,000 applicants, they undergo intensive leadership and design-thinking training before participating fully in the conference. Their reflections and perspectives will be showcased during the closing ceremony.

PCNS: Championing Global South Perspectives

The Policy Centre for the New South continues to establish itself as an influential voice on issues affecting the Atlantic region. Its initiatives include the Atlantic Strategy Group (ASG), formed with the German Marshall Fund of the U.S. and the Luso-American Development Foundation, to deepen inter-Atlantic dialogue.

PCNS also regularly contributes to the annual reports of the Atlantic Centre in Portugal and convenes its own annual conference in Lisbon to examine targeted Atlantic themes.
