Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, Gomoa Central MP, says calls for stronger scrutiny of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) are justified and should prompt the institution to improve its output and operational structure.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on the AM Show, the independent MP said public concerns about the effectiveness of the OSP are legitimate, especially in light of comments recently made by the Speaker of Parliament regarding value for money.

“The Speaker said something, he made a very profound statement that we cannot keep funding the OSP when we are not getting the returns that we expect. And it is true,” A Plus noted.

He argued that every public institution must demonstrate results that justify its financial allocations, adding that ongoing conversations about the OSP’s performance — including calls for restructuring — should not be seen as an attack but as an opportunity for reform.

“When we are putting money into something, we expect that this office is supposed to do so. If we are not getting that, we have to start a certain conversation,” he said. “Criticism always helps people to improve.”

A Plus also highlighted structural deficiencies within the OSP, including the lack of a governing board, which he said continues to hinder the office’s effectiveness.

“The OSP, as we speak, doesn’t have a board. There are a lot of things that the OSP itself lacks,” he added, suggesting that institutional gaps contribute to public frustration over the office’s performance.

A Plus maintained that constructive criticism should help strengthen the office rather than weaken it, adding that reforms are necessary if the OSP is to deliver on its anti-corruption mandate.
