Newmont Ahafo Mines has announced plans to fully finance the asphalting of the 13 kilometers Ntotroso–Kenyasi road in 2026, a project expected to significantly improve transportation and eliminate persistent dust challenges faced by residents and road users.
The announcement was made on Tuesday at Ntotroso by the General Manager of Newmont Ahafo Mines, Engineer Alex Anning, during the launch of the 2026 biannual Apomasu Festival.
According to Engineer Anning, the road project forms part of Newmont’s broader commitment to enhancing infrastructure and improving living conditions in its host communities.
He revealed that, in addition to the Ntotroso–Kenyasi stretch, Newmont Ahafo Mines has already constructed several internal community roads within its operational areas, especially Ntotroso and Gyedu communities, to improve access and mobility.
The General Manager further noted that plans are far advanced to commence the construction of the internal roads of Kenyasi No. 1 and 2 communities.
Engineer Anning also highlighted the ongoing Sunyani–Acherensua highway project, describing it as a successful public-private partnership between Newmont and the government aimed at boosting regional and economic connectivity.
Meanwhile, the Ahafo Regional Minister, Charity Gardiner, commended the Paramount Chief of the Ntotroso Traditional Council, Barima Twereku Ampem, for leveraging culture as a catalyst for development in the area.
She pointed to major social interventions such as the establishment of the Ntotroso College of Nursing and Midwifery and Twereku Ampem Senior High School, noting that these institutions have played a key role in human resource development within the community.
Stakeholders believe the road project, together with ongoing educational and infrastructure initiatives, will further enhance living standards and promote sustained socio-economic growth in the Ntotroso enclave.
