The Acting Director-General of the Cyber Security Authority (CSA), Divine Selase Agbeti, has cautioned Ghanaians to remain vigilant online during the festive season, warning that cybercriminals do not take holidays.
In a season greeting message, Mr Agbeti said the Christmas and New Year festivities often come with increased online activity, creating opportunities for cybercriminals to exploit unsuspecting individuals through fraud, phishing, and other cyber threats.
“As we celebrate this year’s festivities, let us remain vigilant, for cybercriminals do not take holidays. This period comes with increased online activities, and the Cyber Security Authority urges every individual to practise good cyber hygiene to keep themselves and their loved ones safe,” he cautioned.
He advised the public to verify links before clicking, limit online shopping to reputable platforms, avoid oversharing personal information on social media, and exercise caution when interacting with people met online, as some may be fraudsters.
Mr. Agbeti further encouraged the public to report suspected cyber incidents through the appropriate channels to enable swift response and mitigation.
He urged Ghanaians to remain cautious and responsible online as they celebrate, calling for collective efforts to ensure a safe digital environment.
“Together, let us enjoy a cyber-threat-free Christmas,” he added.
