The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has announced that the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has commenced tie-in and test run activities to connect the newly completed AKSA Anwomaso Power Plant to the national transmission grid.
In a press release issued on Monday, December 22, by the Head of Communication, Richmond Rockson, the Ministry explained that the exercise forms part of ongoing system enhancement works aimed at expanding Ghana’s power generation capacity and improving the overall reliability of electricity supply.
According to the Ministry, once fully integrated into the grid, the AKSA Anwomaso Power Plant is expected to add about 141 megawatts (MW) of power to the national system.
The additional capacity is expected to boost electricity supply for households, businesses, and industries, particularly in the middle belt and other parts of the country.
The Ministry cautioned that the tie-in and test run process may result in brief and temporary power interruptions in some areas.
However, it assured the public that all activities are being carefully managed to ensure the safety, stability, and reliability of the transmission system.
It stressed that the exercise is being carried out in the national interest, with a focus on long-term system stability and improved service delivery.
The Ministry further assured that it will continue to work closely with all relevant sector agencies to maintain a stable power supply throughout the Christmas season and beyond, as has largely been achieved in 2025.
