Second Deputy Majority Whip and Member of Parliament for Bia East, Richard Acheampong, has described the death of Ayawaso East MP, Naser Toure Mahama, as a deeply painful loss to the Majority caucus and Parliament as a whole.
Mr Acheampong said the death of Mr Mahama had come as a shock, especially at the beginning of the 2026 parliamentary year.
“This is a very sad moment for the Majority side and the entire Parliament. I came to Parliament together with Hon. Naser, and this was our fourth term serving together. We have worked closely and known each other for a very long time,” he said in an interaction with journalists.
He described the late MP as a man of calm demeanour, humility and deep respect for others, noting that his character endeared him to colleagues on both sides of the House.
“He was somebody with a very calm nature and so respectful. I don’t think he could even kill a fly. Everybody liked him,” Mr Acheampong stated.
Reflecting on the loss from a religious perspective, he added, “What Allah has willed, no one can dispute. It is shocking news, especially starting 2026 with such a story, but we will gather ourselves and pray for his forgiveness so that Allah accepts him into His bosom. We will also come together to protect those of us who remain.”
Sharing a fond but painful memory, the Second Deputy Majority Whip recalled their last private interaction in Parliament.
“He was a caucus chairperson, and I remember one day when we were rising in the House, he came to discuss issues about his caucus with me. I asked him to wait so we could have a private conversation. Nobody knew that was the last time he was going to speak to me. It is very painful,” he recounted.
The late Naser Toure Mahama served as Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso East Constituency for four terms and was widely regarded as a dedicated legislator committed to parliamentary work and constituency development.
