President John Dramani Mahama has praised the Ghana Publishing Company Limited (GPCL) for what he described as a remarkable turnaround, saying the state-owned firm has transformed from a struggling institution into a public-sector success story.
The President made the remarks during a meeting with the Board and Management of GPCL, where he reflected on the company’s past challenges and its recent progress.
“When you talk about State-Owned Enterprises, people’s attention often goes to a few well-known names. For a long time, Ghana Publishing did not have a very good brand,” President Mahama said. “But that has changed, and it is refreshing to see.”
He noted that GPCL had, over the years, suffered from low public confidence and a weak corporate image, which affected its standing among state-owned enterprises.
According to him, the company’s current trajectory shows that public institutions can be reformed with the right leadership, innovation, and strategic direction.
President Mahama said the turnaround at GPCL should serve as an example to other struggling state-owned enterprises, especially at a time when the government is pushing for efficiency, accountability, and value for money in the public sector.
He encouraged management to sustain the momentum and continue exploring innovative ways to expand the company’s reach, improve service delivery, and contribute meaningfully to national development.
GPCL, a state-owned publishing firm, has in recent years undertaken reforms aimed at modernising its operations, improving its product offerings, and repositioning itself in a competitive publishing market.
