More than 63,000 people have been killed in road traffic crashes in Ghana since 1991, according to the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA).
Latest data from the authority show that a total of 63,599 fatalities have been recorded over the past three decades, underscoring the persistent and devastating impact of road crashes on the country.
The figure includes 2,949 deaths recorded in 2025 alone, making it one of the highest annual fatality totals in recent history.
The NRSA described the trend as a serious national concern and called for renewed commitment from government agencies, transport operators and road users to improve safety on Ghana’s roads.
The authority stressed the need for stronger enforcement of traffic regulations, improved funding for road safety programmes and sustained public education to help curb the rising number of fatalities.
The cumulative statistics highlight the urgent need for coordinated national action to reduce road crashes and protect lives across the country.
