Thousands of residents in Kpandai District are celebrating after the Supreme Court ruled in favour of Mr Mathew Nyidam, overturning a High Court judgement that had annulled his election as member of parliament (MP).
In a 4-1 majority decision, the apex court quashed the lower court’s verdict, confirming Nyidam’s win for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
When the Ghana News Agency (GNA) to Kumdi, the hometown of Mr Nyidam, residents filled the streets last night with music, dance and cheers, hailing the ruling as a victory for democracy and the will of the people.
Again, at the district capital, Kpandai, was also filled with jubilation on Wednesday as news Supreme Court decision spread of the. The NPP party faithful took to the streets, wading through crowds with paraphernalia, celebrating the ruling that has restored Nyidam’s seat.
The GNA observed the festive atmosphere, with residents and party supporters alike expressing relief and joy.
The NPP has welcomed the Supreme Court verdict, in favour Mr Nyidam, saying it vindicated their faith in the judicial process.
Mr Mumuni Shaban, the communication officer, told GNA that the party had confidence the decision would go in their favour.
“The candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Daniel Wakpal Nsala, did not do due diligence during the filing of his case. We expected the High Court to dismiss the case, but unfortunately, it went ahead to rule against us,” Mr Shaban added.
The communication officer and other stakeholders engaged by GNA expressed optimism that with the Supreme Court ruling, Kpandai would now see improvement under Nyidam’s leadership.
They call on all residents to rally behind the MP and support his developmental agenda to improve the development of Kpandai District.
